* Jack was very distracted all day today!!
niknotes: I only have a minute before I have to
leave for Special Olympics, but I wanted to briefly tell you about our good
fortune this weekend. Yesterday, on our way to Grandmama's house, we
pulled up to a stoplight behind a purple mini-van with flashing lights (not
flashing at the time, but potential flashing lights, a light bar like police
cars have) with a SKYWARN emblem. My first hope was to take a picture of
it through my windshield for Jack to view over and over. Well, the light
changed, and the van was too far ahead for a good picture so I followed
it. Yep. Stalking the SKYWARN van for my tornado fan. Luckily,
it pulled into Lenora Park, right on our way. And I jumped out and met
A.J. Harrison, the coordinator of Gwinnett Skywarn. Jack told him some
safety rules and how much he loves tornadoes. Luckily, I had the
Twisters and Other Deadly Storms book that MaryRose sent Jack for his
birthday, to further prove I wasn't some run of the mill stalker. Mr.
Harrison was quite pleased to talk about what he does, but his 12-year old son
abandoned us all for the batting cage right away, despite being a certified
storm spotter. So we got the website: http://home.attbi.com/~skywarn.gwinnett.ga.
Also, I mentioned Career Day at Jack's school, and Mr. Harrison seemed quite
interested. He said, "That's what we do! We love to educate people
about tornadoes." Oddly, or maybe not, Mr. Harrison is also a train
fanatic. I wonder if we've stumbled upon the first stone of Jack's career
path here. Even if not, the meeting was certainly fortuitous considering
Jack's current obsession.
P.S. Spiderman was written by a man who studies
spiders. Now we know lots of stuff about spiders.
