niknotes: Jack may have been distraction because he
had caught a cold, including cough. Each time he coughs, I think to avoid
the medicine, he says, "Don't worry, Mama. I just caught a cold."
Yesterday, Jack brought home his Scholastic Children's
Dictionary that I had ordered for him from Scholastic Book Clubs. Did I
already tell this part? He looked up tornado and hurricane, hoping for a
picture, and finally found one under "cyclone." So right away he decided
to make his own dictionary. On the title page, he asked for the correct
spelling and so wrote "My Dictionary," but when he wrote the title on the
outside of the spiral-bound notebook, he wrote, "DICSHONARY." Jack finished his dictionary tonight. It includes pictures for
each entry. He asked for help spelling very few words, maybe just
"extremely" and "dangerous" -- oh, and I think "balloon." The entries
[unedited] are:
A - AIRPLANE - The car that fly's thrue the
air.
B - BALLOON - A balloon is a thing that float's in the
air
C - CYCLONE - The moast extremely dangerous air that
comees out as a wind
D - STEAM DOME - PART of the steam engine that helps the
train whistle blow.
E - EGG - This is a tiny little thing.
F - FIRE - Many things can be too hot.
G - GARGLE - Water that blowes.
G - GERM - A tiny thing.
H - HURRICANE - A TORNADO AT THE ocean
I - IGLOO - A warm placs.
J - JUPYITER - A planeat.
K - KICK - Hiting a ball with your foot.
L - LOUD - A giant sound.
M - MOM - Some one.
N - NURSE - An emergancy lady.
O - OCTTOPUS - A fish.
P - PIG - An animal.
Q - QUILT - A blanket.
R - RUN - A race.
S - SNAKE - A line with bones.
T - TORNADO - Strong winds that suck things
up.
U - UMBRELLA - Some thing in the rain.
V - VERBS - Acshon.
W - WALE - A big fish.
X - X-RAY - Bones.
Y - YO-YO - A toy ball.
Z - Z-BRA - A horse.
I will probably have a hard time not photographing every,
single page for the website. I might have to start with VERBS,
though. He drew lots of ACTIONS for that one, in one big sub-divided
square. But the whale is also precious, and I love the skeleton he drew
for X-RAY. Also the Nurse. And GARGLE is hysterical, showing the
inside of a mouth, including the uvula. He'll have to take his dictionary
for Show-n-Tell tomorrow.
