Teacher Comments:
niknotes: Jack boarded the bus this morning without
much complaint and no apparent anxiety, though he did sort of
scowl from his seat. He came home in a great mood! So I guess the
first day went rather smoothly for our little second-grader. Last Thursday
was open house and registration at the schools, and despite his insistence that
he was all through with school, once we got to Magill, he was really
pleasant. Mrs. Thompson is going to use the same Daily Report Sheet
as Mrs. Penoncello used, and Jack is even sitting in the very same desk as last
year, but he's in between new kids: Ian and Ethan. We met Ian there,
whom I already knew actually, as he was at Mick's school last year and visited
Mick's classroom frequently. Mrs. Thompson probably will make changes, but she
has chosen, correctly in my opinion, to keep the classroom
arrangement exactly the same at least for now, to ease the students through
the transition back to school, with a new teacher. Mrs. Smith ad Mrs.
Avitabile were there and will definitely help the students feel more comfortable
with the changes that can be so tremendously difficult for kids with
autism. So far so good.
