Daily Reports
Name: Jack Dullaghan

Date: 09/06/04 (Mon.) -- Labor Day Holiday (details duplicated in Mick Report)
niknotes:  Sean ran a 10K in Marietta with his friends Rich Colvin and Mark Kloberdanz.  I took the boys to Stone Mountain, where we rode the train, getting off at Confederate Hall to find the Georgia Mineral Society was having an exhibition.  There were several tables, and the Hall has a permanent exhibit on how Stone Mountain was formed, geologically speaking.  There were also two rooms full of experiments and crafts for the children.  Jack and Mick each got to select a polished red agate from Brazil to keep, and Mick chose and wore a Georgia Mineral Society sticker that said "We will, we will ROCK you."  We got another sticker that says "I love Rocks" for their professional geologist Uncle Eddie.  Jack and Mick both enjoyed the volcano experiment, which we even duplicated at home with our own food-colored vinegar and baking soda.  Mick examined some rock chips with tweezers and magnifying glass.  Jack made an edible conglomerate and a wax metamorphic rock.  And to think we almost didn't get off at the Walk-up Station because the sky was threatening rain.  It only sprinkled a tiny bit all afternoon, and after seeing the Rock and Mineral Exhibit, we walked the rest of the way around the mountain back to the "Crossroads" area to look at the old steam engine, tender, and caboose, which seems to be Mick's favorite part of the park.  Then we, to Jack's delight especially, checked out the new Treehouse Challenge play area, which has multi-leveled forts and slides and even a wading creek at one end.  We all enjoyed our visit to Georgia's Stone Mountain Park very much.  (I felt compelled to throw in some kind of promotional tag line there, for some reason.)

Date:  09/10/04 (Friday) -- no daily reports on Fridays
Ms. Campbell's weekly report shows S+ in conduct but only S in work habits, with a check by (needs to improve) "Returns Materials Sent Home."
niknotes:  In the parent comment section, I asked what materials were sent home and not returned by Jack.  Hmmm.

niknotes:  Jack's mainstream class, which he joins for Reading, Lunch, Recess, and Specials is with Ms. Campbell.  Today (9/7/04) she sent home a Weekly Report folder which includes Conduct and Work Habits for the first four weeks of school.  Jack received S+ (surpasses standards) for all four weeks in both areas except for an S (satisfactory) in Conduct for Week 3, with a check mark (needs to improve) on "Controls Talking."  And he got an exclamation point and smiley face that same week for "Works Independently/Stays on Task."  Because Jack returns to Ms. Hildebrand's class after lunch, his folder wasn't with the others when Ms. Campbell was recording the grades so I kept getting a blank report, but I guess she's solved that problem.

We received a letter from the principal regarding precautions the school took Friday afternoon due to a robbery that had taken place in the Summit Chase Subdivision, which included a school "lock down," plans to hold buses scheduled to run in that area (which was unnecessary once the police called off their search), as well as keeping at the school all (15) students who lived in the area of the police search who would be home alone after school, until their parents could pick them up.  Jack and Mick were not affected; although, Jack was certainly aware of and interested in the "lock down."  I'm certainly glad that the safety of the students is such a priority.
