Teacher Comments:

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Dullaghan,

Today Jack was mainstreamed into Ms. Robertson's Math class.  He had super excellent behavior!  Mrs. Robertson kept pace with her class and I'm concerned that it may be too fast a pace for Jack.  The lesson was on subtraction.  While Jack is able to subtract, he was not able to follow her directions for a "listening-subtraction" activity & therefore was not able to do the worksheet.  He had another subtraction sheet that was a cut & paste sheet -- rather than understanding the math, he just matched the pictures.  The final sheet he completely understood but the rest of the class completed it 10 mins prior to Jack.

Again, his behavior was fantastic.  We will continue to mainstream Thurs. & Fri.  We are just concerned that he may not be able to keep up.  Although he is able to do the work it would be a shame for him to "fall through the cracks" because his pace isn't quite as fast.  Knowing Jack and his capabilities, I don't think the "newness" of the situation was a factor, but we'll see. [smiley face]

I expressed my observations (having previously been a 1st grade teacher) to Ms. Penoncello and she asked me to write this to you.

Thank you so much for your continual support,
Robin Smith

niknotes:  I'm glad he behaved well but am of course disappointed that he wasn't able to follow directions and keep up with the class.  Mrs. Smith wrote comments on the worksheets, too, which help further explain Jack's difficulty:  "Did not complete.  Too concerned about drawing correct amount of stick people in boat (aesthetics of stick people).  Was not listening to math part of directions."  His stick people were too adorable, by the way, each with their own gestures and expressions.

Jack's "One Cat" booklet came home yesterday in his folder and was so precious.  He drew the cat in a different pose each of the times it appeared in the book.  He also drew two pandas, three fish, four pups, and five bats.  On the last page, the cat is winking.

After school, there were four in the pool.  Jack, Mick, Amelia and Cameron had a wonderful couple of hours playing together. [photo attached]
