Teacher Comments: Thank you for treasure box
goodies!!
Super afternoon!
niknotes: Jack studied the sky on his way off the
bus and alerted us that he spotted a tornado and we should all get to the
basement. And he meant UNDER THE HOUSE, where Sean has dug out a
basement which still has the Georgia clay floor. Mick did not respond to
the urgency and played a little while in the puddle and then on the rocking
chair on the front porch while Jack stressed the importance of seeking
cover. "I just want my brother to be safe," Jack said. Finally, Mick
followed us through the house, out into the backyard and under the
house. Jack insisted that this was not a drill but a real tornado.
He shut the door and suddenly remembered that his "favorite guide dog" was
still outside. So he called to "Steve" who ran right inside and was spared
from being "sucked up by the terrible tornado, which is a destructive
wind." Once the tornado disappeared (not "passed," Jack specified),
we came back inside.
By the way, Jack was a wonderful patient for the dental
hygienist and got a sticker that said "Dino-Mite-Patient" and one that said
"Brusher-saurus" both with dinosaurs, if you hadn't guessed. I thought he
was pleased enough with the idea of showing the stickers to Ryan that he would
gladly go to his classroom, but he just wanted to go home, not to
Magill. So I'm not surprised he took help chair over P.E., even though I'd
been trying to talk it up, knowing that it was today's Special class. He
turned every activity I mentioned into a potential injury -- such as falling off
of the rock climbing wall and missing the blue mat and breaking his legs.
But at least his afternoon was Super!
