niknotes -- Mick fell asleep at 4:00 this afternoon and is
still sleeping. He nor Jack have gotten an uninterrupted night's sleep or
had good appetites this week. I'm just so glad that Mick is able to rest
right now. His cough has awakened him every night, the worst being Monday
night, but bad enough. We did go to the Spectrum meeting last night, and
Mick was excited to see Thomas from his class and to play on the little
playground right outside the classroom where all the kids stayed. When I
went in at 8:30 to pick them up, Mick took one look at me and burst into tears
and threw himself face-first onto the floor. The three teenage girls who
had been right by him when I walked in all looked completely shocked when he did
it, and were speechless for quite a long moment, until one finally said, "But
he's been so SWEET!" Jack was in a different part of the room, actually
crying at the moment I walked in, complaining that someone threw a "semi-circle"
and knocked over his plates. At least I did get a lot of
information about summer programs of all sorts (karate, swimming, horseback
riding, soccer, social skills, occupational therapy, and more) which I hope will
make up for any heartache they may have suffered in the child care room for 90
minutes. I will have to say it was very, very loud and hot in the room at
8:30, but I don't know how long they got to play outside first. Some of
the day-camps cost as much as $800 for one week, and as wonderful as they may be
... not gonna happen. Of course, Mick will have summer school four days a
week, three hours a day, but I want to find something for Jack, at least, and
hopefully both of them. At the very least, we will arrange play dates with
classmates. I also sat in on an Asperger's discussion group, which I
can't say I found too useful, but maybe I just hit it on the wrong night -- I'll
probably try again next month.
Anyway, I guess we're officially on Spring Break
now! Oh, that reminds me, Mrs. Kris sent home a letter which I probably
type up and send tomorrow. I'm through for tonight.
Goodnight.
