My Day at School
Ms. Kris was out today. We had a great
day.
Special Activity -- made
happy & sad faces
Group Game -- We had music in Mrs. Mary's
room.
Snack -- popcorn
(ate a good amount)
Lunch --
My emotions today -- happy, cried only once at
naptime
niknotes -- After school today, we went to see Dr.
Rubin. Dr. Rubin, Laura Wells the Social Worker, and
young-pup-doctor-in-training Dr. Campbell saw Mick, and Dr. Rubin was quite
impressed with Mick's progress these past months. Last time we were there,
Mick was not toilet-trained, for example. Mostly his behavior, though --
still nervous/anxious but much more cooperative and calm. Dr. Campbell
actually got to do most of the physical exam before Mick had enough.
Notable exception: checking the ears. Mick will NOT sit still for anyone
poking something in his ear (even when I'm trying to take his
temperature!). They recorded his weight at 50 lbs., with clothes, but
before we left, I got his unclothed weight of 48.4. His height was 113 cm
-- I'll have to do the math. Is it 2.54 cm per inch? If so, Mick is
... and he was kind of wiggly to boot, but he is approximately ... 44.5 inches
tall, 3' 8-1/2" (Jack is about 49.5, 4' 1-1/2"), five inches apart. The
reason I was able to get his unclothed weight is that, after we were all
praising his toilet-training success, he had an accident. And we had gone
to the bathroom, right when we arrived, at his request. I think he must
have been more anxious than he let on, because in the car on the way home, and
this is possibly more because it was thirty miles in Friday afternoon traffic (I
avoided 285 altogether, I might add), but ... he threw up all over
himself. Poor little thing. Then he fell asleep until we got
home. But once we got home, and he was in fresh clothes, and Da and Jack
returned from the barber, Mick was feeling very well, it seemed -- playing the
"woof, woof, woof" game with Da and then playing the "demo" button on his
toy keyboard over and over and over and over, until Jack begged me to put Mick
in time-out. I put them to bed, instead, watching the tornado part of
The Wizard of Oz, which reminds me of one last thing to
include:
On the way to Dr. Rubin's, I thought Mick might like to
sing one of the songs they're singing at school, about Feelings, and Mick sang
the responses (in parentheses):
If you're happy and you know it, shout "Hooray!" (Hooray!)
... etc.
If you're sad and you know it, say "Boo-Hoo"
(Boooo-Hoooo)... etc.
If you're angry and you know it, say "I'm mad!" (I'm mad)
... etc.
The last response is supposed to be accompanied by a
foot-stomp, which I guess would've been nearly impossible in his car seat.
He did throw his hands in the air with the shout Hooray! And he sounded
most pitiful on Boo-hoooooo. I went back to the happy verse to end
it. Anyway, when I took away the keyboard and told Mick it was time to go
to sleep, he climbed up onto the couch with the "quilt" and said,
"Boo-hooooo."
Sean ought to tell us all his Boo-Hoo
story!
