Teacher Comments -- On Fridays, we always do a
cooking project. Today, we made brownies and then ate them with ice cream
during recess in order to celebrate my birthday. Mick has had a great
week. I'm glad you told me about Stone Mountain. Yesterday
afternoon, he kept asking me if I was going to go to Stone Mountain & ride
the train tomorrow. He was probably trying to ask if he was going to
go. He is such a sweet child. We all enjoy having him as a part of
the class.
Communication Update 8-11 -- 8-15
Theme, story, or target skill:
1. Improving social use of language:
maintaining eye contact, greetings/farewells, answering social questions,
identifying classmates and teachers
2. Improving receptive/expressive language
skills:
- Requesting items or assistance using
verbalizations
- Answering (who/what) questions
- Following directions
- Imitating and/or sequencing information

- Improving vocabulary skills (nouns): doctor,
mailman, police officer, teacher, fire fighter
- Other: Mick answered most "Who" and "What"
questions with verbal prompting and in imitation. He answered questions
more accurately as the week went on and was able to identify the community
helpers by Friday. [smiley]
niknotes -- Mick is working out on the elliptical exercise
"train" right now. Thank you, Miss Emmy!
The sweet boy knew I had promised him a visit to Stone
Mountain "Thursday after school," and he must have wanted Mrs. McCracken to ask
him so he could answer, "Of course," which always cracks me up or, "You ARE go
Stone Mountain, go ride the train!" in the most enthusiastic manner. He
stills mostly asks questions backwards, or with reversed pronouns, I guess, but
he's starting to indicate by a hand on my face, a "no, Mama" and repetition
of the question that he's not asking me, he's telling me to ask him. It's
a step?
When he first got home, he wanted his Thomas blanket and
wanted me to read his library book, Time Train. There are more
pictures of dinosaurs than of trains, actually, but he seemed to enjoy
it.
