| We are the Dullaghan* family living in Gwinnett County, Georgia, east of Atlanta. We consist of Sean, Nicole, Jack, and Mick. We are related to Dullaghans in the Chesapeake, Virginia, area, including Virginia Beach and Suffolk. Sean also has a brother in North Carolina, sisters in Texas, Ohio, and New York, and cousins in the D.C. area. Sean's grandfathers, Edward Dullaghan and Edward McKeown, emigrated from Blackrock, Co. Louth, Ireland in the 1920s. Sean's father, John Francis Dullaghan, was born in New York City. Sean's mother, Maureen McKeown, was born in Dundalk, Co. Louth, when her mother returned to Ireland to be with her family, the Hamills, in Knockreagh, due to the difficult circumstances in the U.S. in the midst of the Great Depression. Sean's parents returned twice to live in Ireland, the first time in 1979, with the youngest two of their six children, Sean and Brian, at which time they purchased a farm, called Colgagh where they raised horses, near Inniskeen, Co. Louth. John and Maureen Dullaghan returned to the U.S. in 1981, but Sean stayed another two years. In 1994, John and Maureen bought Gartan Lodge near Churchill, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, and retired there in 1996. Many of John Dullaghan's first cousins still reside in the Blackrock area, including Ed and Pam Dullaghan, who live in the childhood home of Sean's "Grandpa Dullaghan." * Please note: the "g" is silent. The name Dullaghan is a derivation of the Gaelic name O'Dubhlachain. |
